I am sure everyone has pondered the idea of being their true selves, living their dreams, and doing what they truly love. But do we actually know who we truly are or what we genuinely desire? How can we be certain that our aspirations are not merely influenced by societal and media expectations? How do we know we aren’t simply brainwashed by the endless stream of content we consume daily?

What we don’t realize is that our desires may be so closely influenced by the content we consume that the lines between who we truly are and what society wants to turn us into become blurred. We might end up thinking like society and the media at large, believing that this is our true calling or what we genuinely want. But deep down, it leaves us feeling unfulfilled and unsatisfied.

If this weren’t true, then why would so many people, at any given time, end up wanting similar things for themselves, aligning with the prevailing societal norms and expectations? For example, two to three decades ago, most women identified with the role of a homemaker, with a core desire to raise their families well. Today, most women in upper-middle-class or affluent societies aspire to excel in their careers, make a mark for themselves, and prove their worth through professional success. If most people end up behaving similarly at any given time, it suggests we aren’t acting out of free will. We are always under societal pressure, constantly fulfilling the roles society and letting the media decide for us, and seeking validation to fit in.

To break free from this and discover what we truly want, we need to imagine a world free of judgment, societal expectations, and norms—a world where we can truly be anything we want to be. What would we choose to be in such a world? If there was no one to judge our choices, what choices would we actually make?

It’s also important to stay away from external content as much as possible, at least until we’ve figured out what we genuinely want for ourselves. When outside influences are minimized, the content from deep within us can start to surface. And when the truth from within you emerges, you’ll know what you really want.

In a world where external influences relentlessly shape our perceptions and desires, the journey to uncover our true selves demands introspection and courage. By silencing the noise of societal expectations and media-driven ideals, we can begin to hear the quiet voice within us that speaks our genuine truth. When we embrace our authentic selves, free from judgment and external pressures, we can pursue a path that truly fulfills and satisfies us. It is only by shedding the layers of imposed identities that we can fully realize our potential and live a life that resonates with our deepest passions and values. So, take a step back, listen to your inner voice, and dare to follow the path that truly belongs to you. The discovery of your true calling awaits, ready to transform your life into one of profound purpose and genuine happiness.
